Beginning at Baton Rouge via Agricultural College, Burtville, through Grenada cut off at Plaquemine, thence from Grenada Lane, down, via St. Gabriel, through Island Cutoff to Jefferson Highway in Ascension Parish. - 1924 Louisiana Legislative Route Description

LA 63 was established as part of the River Road, following the Mississippi River from Geismar north to Baton Rouge. LA 63 began and ended at intersections with LA 1, and passed through the campus of LSU. It was supplemented by later routes established to follow the curvature of the river, and was less important than the route of LA 1.
